On 7 December 2005, our company participated in a festive occasion with the British Armed Forces in the Headquarters of the 143rd Brigade in the Copthorne Barracks (West Midlands) in Shrewsbury, England.
In the course of a pre-yuletide brunch attended by about 200 high-ranking British Army officers, charitable donations were sold by auction. Service providers of the British Army had made the donations.
Ecolog had contributed the first prize - a high-quality plasma TV, which sold like hot cakes.
The aim of the auction was to raise donations for the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), the Soldiers, Sailors and Families Association (SSAFA), and the Macmillan Cancer Relief. The organizers had really come up with good ideas for the event in the Copthorne Barracks - in an electronic auction, people could bid for the best prizes.
Everybody had fun with the Prince of Wales (Clive) Band playing snappy Christmas songs, and the peak was when Santa Claus showed up.
A total of 3,300 British pounds were raised. A nice amount for the donation account.
A bet was the trigger for the charity performance. Two months before the event, Brigadier Chris Murray found that he had gained too much weight. His service uniform did not fit properly anymore. He had himself weighed publicly, witnessed by a hundred military and civilian colleagues, and bet with them to lose one stone (around 6 kg) within two months. When being weighed again during the pre-yuletide charity coffee morning, it turned out that he had lost even 8 kg. The bets taken in were forwarded according to its charity purpose - and Brigadier Murray had set a prime example of military discipline! And of how the care for one´s own good health can be combined in the best manner with good deeds for other people.
The 143rd Brigade is responsible for the major part of the Army in England and Wales as well as for all contract partners and the corresponding services.
Ecolog is an important contract partner of the British Armed Forces in Afghanistan and in Iraq. In South Iraq , for example, we are the contract partner of the 143rd Brigade within the framework of the Operation Telic.
Ecolog supports its partners in the armed forces of different nations in remedial measures for the population in the deployment regions as well as in charity performances for needy soldiers.
