The Annual Focused Logistics Conference was held on the 6th and 7th April 2006 for the 8th time in Banqueting House, the distinguished address in Whitehall, London's historic government district.
The Annual Focused Logistics Conference is a specialist conference on military logistics. The conference is organised by RUSI, the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies, a body which is respected throughout the world, acting in co-operation with many well-known sponsors.
The sponsors include several defence ministries, military procurement agencies, military academies and companies from a number of NATO countries, in particular from England and the USA.
The cover issue of this year's conference was 'supply logistics for operations'. The debates covered a number of interesting topics: improved integration of logistics planning in overall military strategy and the optimal mix of services provided by the military itself, the use of reservists and the involvement of private contract partners; and the role of the British Defence Procurement Agency and the military procurement structures in the relationship with service providers and bidders from the private sector. The diverse range of topics was rounded off by reports on results and experience in the use of logistics in Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa.
These are central subjects for a military service provider such as Ecolog. This is why the company, represented by its head of marketing Heiko Welters and its Manager for International Business Development Marc-Oliver Huhnholz, participated in the event. Both also represented the company at an Ecolog booth much visited during the breaks between the lectures.
The audience - some 300 participants altogether - was both an international and a select gathering of persons. High- and top-ranking officers and representatives of civil administration organisations from all the world met together at the specialist conference: a deputy vice-marshal of the Nigerian Air Force was of course present, as were civil and military participants from England, the USA, France, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Norway, Germany, Canada, Australia and South Korea.
The exhibition proved to be an ideal platform for visitors to inform of new trends in military logistics at the broadest international level.
